Marie Miller P3

After working together for over sixteen years Sarah Fisher and Marie Miller have co-taught many workshops and collaborated on two training books, 100 Ways to Train the Perfect Dog and 100 Ways to Solve Your Dogs Problems. They have extensive experience working with a wide variety of dogs and trainers and in response to numerous requests from people working in a professional capacity with dogs are now organising modular training for anyone with an interest in gaining new skills and a greater understanding of how to inspire their clients and colleagues.

This course comprises of two, three day modules and is aimed at trainers, shelter helpers, kennel assistants, behaviour counsellors and/ or anyone working with clients who would like to learn more about the practicalities of dog training, how to teach it and how to incorporate TTouch, clicker training and fun games into their classes, staff trainings and/or client sessions.

The course will cover:

  • The link between posture and behaviour

  • Visual observations studying the dogs movement, habitual patterns of bracing, muscle development, coat patterns, and responses to stimulus.

  • Responsibilities of being a trainer and how to best support your clients

  • Recognising and accommodating different learning styles

  • Learning theory

  • Clicker training including the use of the clicker to modify unwanted behaviour

  • Use and types of rewards and fading the lure.

  • The Tellington TTouch body work and ground work exercises to reduce stress, improve focus, improve self confidence and self control, and to help dogs overcome a variety of problems including separation anxiety, noise sensitivity, reactive behaviours towards people and other dogs, over excitability and so on.

  • Use of equipment including harnesses, long lines, body wraps, T-shirts and Thundershirts, Calming Bands.

  • Fun training games to play with dogs to add variety to training classes and to reduce boredom and stress

There will be a reading list which will be sent to you prior to the start of module one and there will be some written work to complete between module one and two.

Please note that whilst TTouch will form a large part of this training course you will not be qualified as a TTouch Practitioner on completion of module 2. You will however gain a certificate of completion and be able to incorporate TTouch into your work/classes.

What is a Client Day?

As part of our Practitioner Training Clinic we invite members of the public to bring a dog to a Client Morning. This gives our Practitioners valuable experience in working with client dogs whilst overseen by the Instructor and qualified assistants. Practitioners in training eligible to work with dogs on Client Days have already attended a minimum of two, six day trainings. The sessions usually last around an hour to an hour and a half and we ask that the 'client' joins the group after the session to give us feedback on the session. We charge a nominal fee of £10.00 for each dog who attends the client morning giving you a highly cost effective way of learning how TTouch can be of help to your dog.

DOG ASSESSMENT CHART

By being aware of how your dog responds to contact on every part of his body you can take the necessary steps to help improve his health, behaviour and well being. To aid in this please use the DOG ASSESSMENT CHART which is available to download as a *Form in PDF or in zip files

Use the diagrams to mark areas of tension, 'ticklish' places, no-go areas, and places that are over or under developed. Mark patches that are cold or hot or areas where the coat is worn, raised, coarse or scurfy. Note which is the higher ear, shoulder, hip, and so on.

Watch your dogs reactions at all times and only carry out the flat hand assessment if it is safe to do so.

Date the chart and repeat the assessment every few weeks to follow your dog's progress. You may be amazed at how the simple TTOUCH body work exercises can change your dog.

How You Can Help Your Animal

TTEAM and TTouch offer real value for money. You can learn how you can help your animal by attending a workshop or by working with a local Practitioner on a one to one basis.

One to One Sessions

You can call your local Practitioner and ask them to visit your home or take your animal to the Practitioner. All qualified Practitioners work on a one to one basis. Costs vary depending on area and skill level and there may be some travel costs as well. You will be shown TTouches and leading exercises if appropriate that you can do to help your companion animal overcome a variety of problems. Many clients see a change in their pet within the first session although this obviously depends on the longevity of the problem and possible contributory factors.

Costs for a one to one session at Tilley Farm and in the Bath/Bristol area, for companion animals and horses, by arrangement. Travelling costs may be added if the animal is unable to come to Tilley Farm and lives outside a 10 mile radius from the farm.

Workshops

You could also attend a workshop. Practitioners qualified to Level 1 and above teach one day workshops and those qualified to Practitioner Level 2 teach two day workshops. Costs vary depending on the skill level of the Practitioner and the area. Many people who attend our workshops go on to train as Practitioners.
